David Barrett Trio

Since January of 2010 I've been writing and recording new music for an all instrumental power trio, about 32 tracks in all. Over the summer we've been rehearsing and arranging the best 12 tunes which will be recorded over the next year in Toronto. The trio features myself on my Gibson ES 175, Gibson EDS 1275 doubleneck, Sascha Tukatsch on DW drums and Roland V-Stage drums, and Jason Farrar on Fender Precision, Ernie Ball fretless bass, and Chapman stick. It's still undecided if Sascha's Moog Taurus pedals are coming out of storage, but both Jason and Sascha are making amazing contributions to the material, and it's sounding pretty monstrous so far!
In order to better prepare for the recording we've booked a gig at the The Gibson Guitar Artist Showroom, 1205 King St. W. in Toronto, Thursday October 7th. Doors at 7pm, show starts at 8pm, tickets are $10 at the door. We'd love to see you there for our first concert!

My Top 25 Most Influencial Guitar Albums

It’s always fun putting together lists of things, in this case it’s not necessarily best guitar albums, but the ones that were most influential to me both growing up and more recently. Those who know me well won’t be too surprised at this list, and there are some obvious and more personal, unusual reasons for including some albums over others. It would have been no fun if I listed ten or so Yes or Rush records and then rounded it out with some Pat Metheny classics. Each record has a story behind it how it opened up a door in my own awareness of playing rock, ambient and acoustic guitar music. Enjoy, and please feel free to comment!
